5 Classic Exercises You Can Do While Traveling

Posted on

It’s easy to let exercises fall by the wayside while traveling. There are many excuses for this. Maybe you don’t have access to workout equipment or a gym. If you’re a weight lifter, your options can be particularly limited by the lack of equipment.

But, those who are determined will always find a way. Below is a list of five classic/old school type exercises you can do from anywhere. No excuses.

Push-Up – Whо соuld fоrgеt the timе honored рuѕh uр? Thiѕ ѕimрlе еxеrсiѕе will givе уоur сhеѕt, аrmѕ, аnd соrе a grеаt wоrkоut. For grеаtеr vаriеtу, trу сhаnging the position оf your hаndѕ оr fееt. Switching up reps or timed circuits can give you a complete workout. All you need is a floor.

Bоdу Weight Sԛuаtѕ – The ѕԛuаt iѕ one of thе mоѕt bаѕiс bоdу building mоvеѕ. It iѕ a compound еxеrсiѕе whiсh works muscle groups from the bасk down tо thе fееt. With a barbell it iѕ a trеmеndоuѕ еxеrсiѕе, but do not let the fасt that уоu will be dоing thеm withоut аddеd weight make you think thеу аrе еаѕу. Likе thе push-ups, set a numbеr of rереtitiоnѕ for уоur goal аnd trу tо achieve thеm in the ѕhоrtеѕt timе period whilе kеерing gооd fоrm. Fоr extra resistance, уоu соuld рiсk uр a piece оf your luggage аnd hold it while you do уоur squats!

Lungеѕ – Thе lungе will wоrk уоur quadriceps, glutеѕ аnd hamstrings. Dереnding on hоw much space in your hоtеl rооm, you mау hаvе thе ѕрасе tо dо a vаriеtу оf different tуреѕ оf lungеѕ. If уоu оnlу hаvе a small ѕрасе, уоu саn do ѕimрlе lunges. With a bit mоrе ѕрасе, уоu can do walking lungеѕ оr ѕidе lungеѕ. Mix it uр аnd fееl thе burn!

Below is @larryokalel showing us some lunges. Remember, you can use anything as a weight.

Crunches – Sоmе people hаtе сrunсhеѕ, but they are a proven classic. Fоr аddеd resistance, уоu could hоld thе hоtеl rооm phone bооk above уоur hеаd. Hotels still have phone books, right?

Below is @therealjungle doing some crunches.

Chair Diрѕ – Tо givе your triceps аnd ѕhоuldеrѕ a wоrkоut, use thе hotel room chair as a tооl fоr сhаir dips. You can also use a coffee tаblе оr even thе bеd. Be сrеаtivе, but safe while imрrоviѕing.

Below is @erinnbacchus doing some chair dips. As you can see, they can be done almost anywhere.

Aѕ mеntiоnеd, intеnѕitу аnd thе numbеr of reps аrе whаt can make a workout effective. If you’re in grеаt shape, уоu might hаvе tо do more reps. Just make sure you’re being honest with yourself to max out.

Traveling usually comes togehter with eating out and nights drinking. So, getting a workout in can be challenging. Just remember, there’s always a way to get it done.

10 Flying Superstitions People Actually Do

Posted on

If you travel enough, you’ll start to develop routines or quirks. Some might be as mild as having to arrive to the airport thirty minutes prior to the recommended two hour before departure rule. Others can be a bit more wild like having to wear your hat backwards while you board the plane.

Our curiosity was sparked, so we asked people to share their flying superstitions. Below is a list of quotes people from people who shared their flying superstions.

1: Hold hands – even when traveling alone

“While growing up, flying always scared me so my mother would hold my hand during take-off. Now that I travel alone 95% of the time, I always hold my hands together and pretend I am still holding my mother’s hand. Weird, but it makes me think she is with me, even at 29 years old.”

2: Repeat a special saying

“I must say ‘Happy Landings’ if I’m flying with someone, as well as have someone say it to me before I fly. It can be before I get to the airport, or said via text… My grandparents always said this before they flew and passed it along.”

3: Be safety conscious

“I have to watch the safety informational video and read the entire safety information card before the plane takes off. It’s become second nature to me and barely registers in my head because I’ve been doing it my entire life. And the few times where there wasn’t an informational card in my seat pocket, I’ve requested one from the flight attendant.”

4: Stay seated

“I always arrive 2 hours early and pace the entire airport back and forth. I find this keeps me relaxed and able to sit in the tiny airplane seat for hours without having to get up during the flight.”

5: Count to 100 and then keep on going

“I’m not a particular fan of take-off, so the way I get through it on every flight is to count. Usually I know that, by the time I get to 800 or so, I will hear the happy little ping that lets you know that cruising altitude has been reached. I figure if the captain is casually telling us we can walk around, all is going well in the cockpit.”

6: Take a picture of the airplane and send it to a loved one

“Capturing it in a photo and sharing it with them makes me feel like the flight I’m about to take will be safe, comfortable and quick.”

7: Order a special drink, just for air travel

“The only time I ever order a Bloody Mary mix or a tomato juice is when my butt is planted on a plane seat.”

8: Rub the rivets

“As I board the plane, I always reach out with my right hand and touch the rivets around the door. If they are smooth, I take it as an indication that the flight will be smooth and safe. But, if they are rough, I spend the whole flight fretting.”

9: Get organized…with the laundry

“Before flying anywhere, I MUST do all of my laundry – even if it means staying up all night to do it. Bottom line, my laundry hamper must be empty before I take off. I guess this is to avoid other people having to deal with it if something were to happen to me.”

10: Wear your socks inside out

“I always wear my socks inside out when I need a bit of good luck. This includes every time I fly. It is a ritual that started after a particularly amazing basketball game that I had back in high school. After the game I discovered that my socks had been inside out.”

Now we want to hear from you. Do you have any flying superstitions that you swear by? If so, comment on this post and let us know what that is.

When’s the Ideal Time to Visit Venice, Italy?

Posted on
Venice, Italy

Before you booking travel to a specific place in the world, a good traveler will take a look at several things like before booking. Things like weather, number of tourists and hotel availability can make a huge impact in the type of experience you have while traveling.

If you’re planning on visiting Venice, Italy then we’ve got you covered. Below is what you can expect during the different seasons.

Venice is the most popular during April, May, June, September and October, which means airfares and accommodations will be at their peak, and lines to visit museums and attractions will be long. But the weather is warm and beautiful during this time. Tourists still pack the city in late summer, but the weather can get oppressively hot and the canals don’t smell too pleasant during this time.

Fall is also a good time to visit with the cooler weather and fewer tourists, but it is also more likely to flood (Venice floods about 60 times a year), which could disrupt your trip. The floods occur during high tides and can bring water into many of the lower level shops and houses. (Venice is currently building a high tide suppressor that’ll combat this)

Photo by @realalixstark during her honeymoon trip in Venice, Italy. She didn’t mind the flood.

Winter time is when you can get good bargains and not encounter as many tourists, but Venice’s location in the north on the Adriatic Sea means that winter can be harsh with teeth chattering winds blowing through the alleyways. But winter is when the Carnival of Venice takes place, usually between last February and early March.

So, there you have it. This information should give you a better idea of when you’d like travel to Venice.

Regardless of what time of year you decide to go, if you’re interested in getting access to unpublished fares, download FlyEx. It’s a new Peer to Peer Travel Booking App revolutionizing the travel industry.
